If I've learned anything from this adventure, it's to get and maintain good smoke detectors, and have a couple of well-maintained extinguishers around.
This weekend, swap out all the batteries, or buy some detectors. Even quite a little fire can really bugger up your living space and your life. Do it. You know I'm right!
(Also, figure out in advance what you'll save if you have that sort of time. We grabbed the checkbook and our wedding album; what else would we have hated to see burning? I'm gong to make a list.) |

Our detectors were just installed a few months ago and we have an ABC extinguisher handy on top of the fridge. :)
As far as what I'd grab, probably my purse and the computer. It's nice to have a Mac Mini sometimes.
The last time we stayed in a motel (Boston, during the LoTR exhibit) the fire alarm went off and we had to clear the building (gthough it turned out to be nothing). We checked that we were together, popped our power cords and took our Mac Books. (I don't even have a purse, just a wallet and a space pen in the pocket of my jeans.)
Which reminds me: I have got to buy renter's insurance asap. | |
